Trial Room Tantrums & Denim Drama: The Real Story Behind YnC

You know how some business stories begin with a spreadsheet and a Shark Tank pitch?
Mine started in a trial room. With one annoyed teenager and a pair of jeans that refused to reach her ankles.

Hey! I’m the founder of YnC (YoungnCool). But first, I’m a mom. Woman on the taller side. And someone who’s worked with great brands in apparel sourcing. This is the story of how I went from measuring inseams for global brands to building an Indian fashion label that’s actually made for teen girls of all vibes and sizes, tall, curvy, petite, growing, glowing, and totally owning their space.

The Denim Disaster

Imagine this: my daughter, already on the taller side trying on “teen jeans” in a mall. The result? Capris. Unintentional ones.

She looked at me with that teen-girl combo of betrayal + drama, and said:
“Why do brands make clothes for garden gnomes?”

I had no good answer. Because honestly? Teen fashion in India hasn’t kept up.

Tall sizes? Rare.

Adjustable waists that actually adjust? LOL.

Something that’s stylish and functional for outings, chill days, Insta pics, or tuition? Mission impossible.

And as a tall teen myself (once upon a time), I remembered the frustration all too well, rolling up pants, stealing men’s hoodies, and pretending “I’m just into baggy stuff.”

The Mom With a Mission

That night, I opened my laptop, not to an online shop, but to sketch out the first collection of a brand I wish existed when I was a teen, or for my teen.

With my sourcing background, I knew what fitting and measurements meant, how to get right fabrics, work with factories, and manage production. But this time, I was designing for someone very specific: my daughter, and her girls gang and many more like them.

Girls outgrowing “standard sizes” before they outgrow their playlists.
Girls with strong strides, broad vibes, and long legs that don’t play by sizing charts.
Girls who want to feel seen, styled, and so comfortable they forget they’re even wearing pants.

And so, YnC (YoungnCool) was born, my second baby, and yep, she came with teen tantrums right out of the gate.
